Cheese Storage Tips

When you bring cheese home from the store, it is usually at its best. If you are planning to keep it in the refrigerator for some time, however, here are some tips on how to preserve its quality.

If the cheese has been wrapped in plastic, remove it and wrap tightly in wax paper or aluminium foil so that no air can pass through.

You can place the cheese in a plastic container to protect it from food odours in the refrigerator. However, if you leave it for too long, it may ferment very quickly.

Place the cheese in the least cold area of the refrigerator. The vegetable crisper is often the best place, since the higher temperature and humidity produce conditions similar to those in an aging cellar.

For optimal taste, take the cheese out of the refrigerator at least two hours before serving.
